Belfast’s green hydrogen refuelling station:
In an effort to speed up the lowering of emissions, the forward thinking city of Belfast is developing one of the biggest capacity hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe.
Translink, Northern Ireland’s foremost provider of public transport has commissioned the project at a cost of £1.6m. The depot will be designed by Logan Energy the Scottish hydrogen technology company.
The station will supply the city’s fleet of 20 hydrogen fuel cell buses, manufactured in the UK by Wrightbus, and will be built in Newtownabbey Bus Depot. The refuelling station will be able to supply two and a half tonnes of green hydrogen each day.
UK Trade fair ITTHub showcases zero-emission transport:
The ITTHub (Innovation & Technology In Transport) event took place at Farnborough June 30th-July 1st, and was a huge success for those attending and exhibiting. One of the first face-to-face industry events to be held post COVID-19 restrictions the ITTHub showcased an array of zero-emission transport technology. This included zero-emission electric digger technology from JCB. There was a keynote speech from astronaut Major Tim Peake who also visited the Wrightbus stand to experience their zero-emission hydrogen double-deck bus model. The astronaut was also given a demonstration of the Wrightbus Telematics 365 Uptime technology designed to improve bus efficiency for passengers, and fleet owners alike.
A Wrightbus zero-emission Hydrogen double-deck bus was made available by TFL for passengers and drivers to experience at the ITTHub, Farnborough.
Teeside could become host for new Green Energy Summit as a result of Hydrogen initiative:
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen is pushing for Teeside to host a global green exports and investment ‘expo’.
An international summit “could boost UK PLC” said Mr Houchen, because of the green energy credentials of the area.
A hydrogen transport hub at the Tees Advanced Manufacturing Park will become a ‘centre of excellence’ to test hydrogen as a fuel to power numerous types of transport. Mr Houchen highlights that the government support for this project demonstrates the area is the ideal candidate to host a summit.
Liverpool Bay gas could be converted for hydrogen production:
Eni UK owns and operates several oil and gas fields in Liverpool Bay, supplying Uniper’s Connah’s Quay power station in Flintshire.
Uniper will investigate opportunities for blue and green hydrogen production at the site, capturing any CO2 which will be a by-product of the process.
Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell truck fleet surpasses one-million-kilometers in Switzerland, saving a huge amount of CO2 emissions:
The fleet of Xcient fuel Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility’s fuel cell trucks has, says the manufacturer, exceeded one million collective kilometers of driving in less than a year of operations in Switzerland.
The zero-emissions hydrogen fleet has reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 630 tons when compared with similar journey length for diesel-powered vehicles.
The fleet of 46 hydrogen fuel cell trucks has hit its targets and surpassed them, servicing 25 Swiss companies in supermarket fulfilment, logistics and distribution.
