In its virtual Sustainability Week last month, Abu Dhabi announced planned investments in blue and green hydrogen production, and zero-carbon fuel for shipping, aviation and road transport. This is all part of a new clean energy strategy.
As oil demand dropped significantly, 2020 demonstrated the need for self-sustainability and cleaner energy. As a result ANODC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Co) has been exploring opportunities for greater carbon efficiency through capture and storage, to reduce its footprint.
Abu Dhabi will also work closely with Japan to develop ammonia fuel technology. Ammonia can be used in the development of zero-emission fuels, pivotal for the transition away from fossil fuels.
